Only 7 more months until it’s summer again! But there’s always the end of the year to look forward to. I mean we’ve got Halloween (I get to dress like a Power Ranger again), Thanksgiving (my favorite meal), and Chrismahanakwanzika (Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa).  And we’ve always got new music to look forward! Let’s see what new songs we’ve got this month or will start hearing more of.
The chillest new song this month from an artist that is known for beautiful, gentle music. The “Bubbly” singer, Colbie Caillat, may not be at highest peak of her career but fans still enjoy her music. This song is perfect background music!
Another feel-good anthem from one of my favorite DJs. Dillon returns to his roots with a pop song that I can just jam out to for hours.
twenty-one pilots are at it again with another great song. It may not be an original but it is a fantastic cover of My Chemical Romance’s Cancer. They have such a different and eerie sound to their music, it just seemed appropriate for them to cover a song by MCR. The two go hand and hand like bread and butter.  twenty-one pilots are one of the best bands out there. It may not be traditional or dance music but it is quality music.
I don’t remember the last time Gavin DeGraw released such a good song. A finger-snapping song off his new album, “Something Worth Saving”, DeGraw sets the tone with a mid-tempo hit! It’s good to see the Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum selling recording artist Gavin DeGraw onto another successful album.
A quick background on KSHMR: his DJ name is named after Kashmir, the northern state of India which it sometimes referred to as the “paradise on earth”. Well, his music makes me feel like paradise on earth! The “Like a G6” producer is an absolute stud! He adds an Indian (Kashmir) style to a lot of his music and it just creates such a unique sound. The song’s name comes from a term referring to slum kids in India and places around the world where poverty is so rampant that people begin to stop noticing according to KSHMR. I think “Invisible Children” sends a great message while delivering an absolute banger. It’ll be on my newest mix!
A new song that is raising up the charts is Starboy. Coming off of The Weeknd’s up and coming album entitled “Starboy” coming out in November. The reason this song is getting so much buzz is who’s featured in the song…Daft Punk. We haven’t heard from them since 2013 with their hit song, “Get Lucky”. Could this be a comeback for Daft Punk? We’ll have to see!
Probably the greatest mashup of country songs of all time. This song features huge artists from obviously today, years ago, and even farther. It features monster country stars like Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Dolly Parton, Little Big Town, Carrie Underwood, Darius Rucker, Willie Nelson, and the list just keeps going(except for no Garth Brooks which really surprises me). It’s essentially a mashup of John Denver’s “Country Roads”, Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again”, and Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You”. This is best way to honor the 50th Annual Country Music Awards.
Shawn Mendes has passed Charlie Puth in my book. Like I anticipated it, he just released his first full length album, “Illuminate”, this month. This song hasn’t received any radio time yet but I think you will in the coming months. This guy is super talented and reminds me a lot of Nick Jonas. Please check out Mercy and look for Shawn Mendes. This kid is going to be huge.
Calvin Harris’s first song that he’s sang on his since 2014 and it’s a pretty good track. Not exactly my favorite song by him but will definitely get plenty of radio time. Harris chills out the vibes in this song with a tropical house melody. It was assumed the song was about his break up with Taylor Swift but he claims it wasn’t. You can be the judge and find out his interpretation!
Sia is one of the most complex artists out there today. Her music videos are strange and confusing but her talent is unbelievable. Her voice is moving in some way. Her lyrics may not be the most creative and original, but they are motivational and give people strength. That is why her and Kendrick Lamar are sitting atop my favorite new songs this month.
My Favorite New Album of September:
Usually I like to put my favorite new remix or throwback at this part of my blog but, this time I’m going to tell you about my new favorite album this month. You may not have heard of GRiZ but he’s got one of the most unique sounds I’ve ever heard. He blends electro-funk with a cool jazz saxophone that he plays himself. I first saw him live at Electric Forest in Rothbury, Michigan and his set had so much energy, bass and funk. I like it because it isn’t your typical EDM (electronic dance music). This new album features fantastic producers like Jam/livetronica Big Gigantic to jam bands like Sunsquabi. If you’re looking to chill out, I suggest “Feelin’ Fine” and if you want to dance, I suggest “Good Times Roll” featuring Big Gigantic. If you’re looking for some new music to chill out or head bang to, I highly suggest you check out the entire album. Good Will Prevail, an early selection as my favorite album of the year.
