I met with Chris and Christina about a year before their wedding.  They were interviewing DJs in search of someone who would work with them and their musical tastes.  They had very strong feelings about the music at their reception and wanted to make sure their DJ and MC understood them and was willing to incorporate them into the programming.  We clicked when we met and I assured them that I don’t consider a wedding successful unless I’ve played all the bride and groom’s requests.  A packed dance floor is only part of my job – I always make sure the music is representative of the couple and their tastes.

Chris and Christina are rockers – hard rockers – and they incorporated this not just in the music at their reception but so much else as well.  Instead of a flower girl, for example, they had a Rhinestone Girl named Willow who sprinkled the runner with rhinestones before Christina came down the aisle at the ceremony.  And when Christina did make her appearance it was clear that her fashion sense is all rocker as well. Her wedding dress was silver and it was bedazzled with bling and her bouquet was more rhinestones than flowers.  Chris was sporting a less-than traditional tuxedo as well (a very rockabilly look).

Musically Chris and Christina’s tastes ran the gamut.  They had some dance songs (Shut Up and Dance and Baby Got Back) some hard rock (Green Day and Foo Fighters) and some unique selections like “A Girl Like You” by Edwyn Collins (which I’d never heard before but it’s a cool, David Bowie-esque track).  One of their requests was “Kiss” which was perfect because Prince had passed away the day before their wedding so I opened up the dancing with this and it went over great.

Besides working for an awesome couple one of the things I really enjoyed at this wedding were the people I got to work with.  The Palace at Somerset Park is one of my absolute favorite places to DJ a reception and I got to work with their awesome maître d’ David.  He is always so easy to work with and helps me throw a better party by keeping me informed of the timing and even giving me some flexibility when the cake gets cut.  Chris and Christina also hired JS Photo Video to shoot their images and I got to work with Scott who is not only a great photographer but an awesome guy as well.  Scott enjoyed a lot of the music (he’s a rockers as well) in fact at one point (I think it was during “Nothing Else Matters” by Metallica) he was singing along and he said to me, “feels like I’m back in high school.”  I want to thank Scott for giving me the pictures

By the end of the night I had one last request to play.  Chris and Christina had asked for Green Day’s “Time of Our Life” as their last song.  I got married 3 years ago and my wife and I ended our reception the same way.  Chris and Christina’s family and friends all swaying back and forth and singing was a great way to end this unique and unforgettable reception.
