    COURTNEY JOHN

Courtney JohnAs his Bandpage Bio reads:   Courtney John’s mission is simple– to make music that transcends time and leaves listeners happy and lifted. Descending from a long line of reggae greats, the singer is proud to continue the legacy with his latest offering From Letters To Words out July 17th on FiWi Music. This ten-track album is flavored with lovers rock melodies incorporating a little bit of the old and a lot of new.

From Letters To Words is described by Courtney John as a “feel good reggae album for the mature listener”. The lead single Its Gonna Be Alright is a hopeful and inspiring track to help people get through tough times while the ever romantic Love Is explores the importance of love in our lives and its power to transform us. • Erin & James Celebrate at the Berkeley in Asbury

This past Saturday, Marshall got to celebrate with an amazing couple and here’s a little bit of what he had to say:

I had the pleasure of DJing my final wedding of 2016 with a beautiful and fun couple, Erin and James Hornberger.  The morning started off in typical TriState December fashion with a snow storm and 3-4 inches of snow….  I spoke with their wedding planner and confirmed everything was a go and proceeded to trek into NJ from Brooklyn, excited to be a part of their special day.  Their wedding was in Asbury Park at The Berkeley Hotel which is a beautiful venue.  Erin and James had a great guitarist play for cocktail hour then we were able to kick off their reception with a fun and energetic Bridal Party Intro and a special choreographed first dance to Thank You By Chris Cornell.

The wedding reception was followed by lots of dancing, a photo booth and some great friends and family.

We concluded the night with a high energy final 15 mins dancing and singing to Paradise By the Dashboard Lights by Meatloaf and then having Erin and James dance with every single one of their guests individually to Scenario by Tribe Called Quest!

  • After Party Tips by Marshall Moore

    After Party!!!

The last song of the night has played and everyone has waved goodbye - now what?
The last song of the night has played and everyone has waved goodbye – now what?

In the last few years we have seen a surge in post Wedding & Event “After Parties”.  For the Bride & Groom it’s a time to unwind and have some time with their bridal party and usually closest family and friends.  For the guests it’s a time to get out of their dress or suit, get comfortable, and relax with the happy new couple.  Here are some suggestions for enjoying the post wedding merriment.

    1. Keep it Simple…… There’s no need to plan a second elaborate party, the simpler the better.

    2. Keep it Close…….. Are you getting married at a hotel that has a bar?…… Done!  Are you and your guests staying at a nearby hotel after your wedding?…. Done!  Anywhere with a bar that is close works.

    3. Size Doesn’t Matter…. (pun intended)……… For this type of informal, come-if-you-want event, size isn’t relevant.  If 10 people show up awesome.  If 50 show up awesome.  no need to worry about how many people are there.

    4. Cost = “$0.00” at least for yourself……. You also do not have to plan to pay for drinks/food for everyone.  Treat it as you would any other night out with friends & family!

    5.  Length of Time….. Generally, these events go until the bar/lounge/restaurant closes, no need to set a time…  You can also make your exit anytime you want, usually with a standing ovation…..

The After Party: You don't have to party till only one of you is left standing.
The After Party: You don’t have to party till only one of you is left standing.

    6. Invitations…… This is where we, as your Entertainer, can be very helpful.  As your wedding draws to a close and we are announcing, last song, shuttles, final few minutes, anything that happens at your wedding over the last 5-15 minutes, we can make mention over the microphone that there is an after party for anyone who wants to come at “name your place” after the final song of the night.  Then we can promote it again as we give you your final send off.

    7. Have Fun!!!!!…. The most important advice is to have fun, keep your wedding dress/tux on or change into sweats or a post wedding outfit.   Hug all the people you didn’t get a chance to at your wedding.  Put a song on the jukebox that you have to hear.  Sit and reminisce over the night’s events.  Enjoy knowing all your hard work and planning is done, and now you and your new spouse are just like everyone else and enjoying time with friends!

    Why:

Why I loved DJing this Event……

I was very impressed by Lucia, Emilie, Clarissa, and the Board of Cheer Dream.  They really are putting smiles on the faces of kids who have Scoliosis and helping the parents as well.  They go to hospitals and visit and give care packages to children who have the medical condition as well as support parents and families.  This particular fundraiser gave a $1000 Scholarship to dance school where one of the students has Scoliosis, as well as a $500 Scholarship to a student also with Scoliosis in a different school.  The Old Bridge School of Dance, the winners of the 2013 Scholarship performed various numbers for the guests, which was a lot of fun to watch.  The videos and pictures and families who were there really showed how important and helpful their foundation is.  I was pleased and touched to be a part of it, and look forward to working with them again.

  • The Five W’s 4/12/14

    Who:

                    Omar & Jennifer

    What:

                    Wedding Ceremony & Reception

    Where:

                    Doubletree Hotel in Tinton Falls

    When:

                    Saturday, April 12, 2014

    Why:

Why I loved DJing this Wedding……

Jennifer and Omar were a lot of fun to work with, they were so excited about having good music and getting to dance and party with their friends and family.  From the first dance song to the last they were on the dance floor having the time of their lives… We had a great variety of music also, including Salsa, Merengue, Hip-Hop, Top 40, Commercial House, Crooners, and Disco…

My favorite moment had to be the last song “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore, when they were in the middle of a circle with all of their guests (there were a lot of guests at the end, and an after party at Aqua Bar right after) and they were dancing with everyone in the circle just loving it trying to dance with each and every person before the song was over…

    Why:

Why I loved this DJing Reunion……

Reunions are always a fun time, and the Spotswood Class of 2003 did not disappoint.  Elizabeth B., who organized the reunion was a pleasure to work with, she had a good feel for what her classmates would like to hear and was excited to get them dancing and partying.  After Cocktail Hour was over the group started dancing and didn’t stop the whole night, we spanned the years musically from mid-late 90’s all the way to current radio and club hits.  We could have easily kept this party going way into the early hours…. Congratulations to Elizabeth and the entire Spotswood Class of 2003.

    Why:

Why I loved this DJing wedding……

    –          Danielle wanted “A Jersey Fist Pumping Wedding”… AWESOME!

    –          I was able to meet with them for their wedding at my favorite NYC Restaurant Burger & Barrel (which by the way is where I Bartend sometimes also)… Needless to say we had a great meeting over food and drinks

    –          They both wanted a lot of new Dance music….

    –          The crowd was up and dancing from the first song to the last….

    –          Brody’s Best Man and Older Brother Joseph’s Toast….

    –          The dance battle that started before dinner…… classic…..

    –          There were two fellow Scholastic employees (guests) there who happen to sit one floor above me… (New Happy Hour buddies!!!)

    –          Brody & Danielle are N.Y. residents like myself…..

    When:

                Friday, November 9, 2012

    Why:

Why I loved DJing this Event……

    • This was my first wedding after the storm (others had been postponed), so I was eager to help people have a good time and forget at least for a few hours about the issues everyone was having.
    • Brooke & Chris had to change venues due to flooding in their original Banquet Hall, but they were able to keep the date, notify all their guests, and make the Wedding a success.
    • All the guests were ready to have fun, and showed up ready to eat, drink, dance, and be merry.
    • As the pictures show, Brooke & Chris personalized the Banquet room, with pictures, plaques, and other great decorations to bring the room to life for their Wedding.
    • The dance floor stayed packed all night and everyone enjoyed themselves to the fullest.
