If you’re anything like me, right now I would venture to guess that most people are in utter disbelief that 2016 will be over less than 4 weeks. Wasn’t it just Memorial Day Weekend like 15 minutes ago??? Anyway, with the close of the year comes the close of another moment in music. For us as DJs, 2016 was a pretty d@%$ good year.

I think if you had to ask any wedding DJ, “what was the best song of 2016 for weddings?”, the vast majority would probably respond with “Can’t Stop The Feeling” by Justin Timberlake and it would be hard to argue that point. But for me personally, I would have to go with “This Is What You Came For” by Calvin Harris and Rihanna. While it didn’t quite reach the status of “We Found Love” (yet), this was probably my favorite song of the year. It had that undeniable vocal that all the girls could sing loud and proud, but a bassline that all the fellas could appreciate as well after the chorus.

I’ll be the first to admit that country isn’t my cup of tea, but it’s definitely grown on me the last few years and I have my beautiful wife Danielle to thank/blame. For me, the best new slow song was “From The Ground Up” by Dan + Shay. It’s just an incredibly beautiful and sweet song and a perfect way for a happy couple to begin their journey, by starting from the ground up.

It’s always amazing to hear how music changes from year to year and how popular sounds evolve. Over the last several years, we’ve seen the rise of EDM and country to new heights and popularity and I can’t wait to see what tunes 2017 has in store for us!
