Top 25 Songs of 2016:
25. Heathens by twenty-one pilots I was not a fan of their music at first. I was just like “what’s the deal?!” And then they blew up and started putting more and more fantastic music and it grew on me. Heathens is most likely the statement song of Suicide Squad.
24. Treat You Better by Shawn Mendes – Another newcomer to the music world thanks to the six second video app, Vine. Definitely was the Charlie Puth of 2016.
23. Forever Country by Artists of Then, Now & Forever – Greatest mashup of Take Me Home, On the Road Again, I Will Always Love You. Consists of huge country artists like Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, Luke Bryan, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson.
22. The Greatest (feat. Kendrick Lamar) by Sia – Sia premiered this song at an Apple event and I think its a great move by them. The iTunes Store was a huge game changer when it came and continues to recognize quality artists like Sia.
21. Broccoli (feat. Lil Yachty by D.R.A.M. – the up and comers Lil Yachty and D.R.A.M. create one of the catchiest tunes but, this song is definitely not about broccoli.
20. Black Beatles by Rae Sremmurd – this song gets in your head after a few listens. But it mostly gets the nod because they started the “Challenge” epidemic.
19. Starboy (feat. Daft Punk) by the Weeknd – his album, Starboy, is continuing to have huge success. This song stood out the most and i’m glad Daft Punk got involved with a few songs.
18. Formation by Beyonce – best song of her album, Lemonade. Beyonce continues to dominate the music world.
17. Starving (feat. Zedd) by Hailey Steinfeld and Grey – Zedd has worked with many up and coming stars. Future bass EDM producer Grey and “Pitch Perfect 2” star Hailee Steinfeld have all been itching to work together with Zedd on a song and they made a beautiful song.
16. Let Me Love You (feat. Justin Bieber) by DJ Snake – not a big “bielber” of most of his songs but him and DJ Snake had pretty good years. I think this was both their best, despite it sounding very much like DJ Snake’s other songs
15. I Took a Pill in Ibiza by Mike Posner – I highly recommend the SeeB Remix if you’re looking for a version with a steadier beat.i-took-a-pill-in-ibiza
14. Never Forget You by Zara Larson & MNEK – Along with the year of slow jams, Zara Larson adds future bass to 2016 with a lyrically awesome song
13. Don’t Let Me Down (feat. Daya) by the Chainsmokers – could definitely compete with Closer as their best song of 2016.
12. This Girl by Kungs & Cookin’ on 3 Burners – most underrated song of 2016, I hope to hear this song a lot more next year, trumpet addition and great bass line make it fun and very danceable.
11. Don’t Wanna Know (feat. Kendrick Lamar) by Maroon 5 – late entry to my favorite songs, Maroon 5 is back by keeping up with the trend of low BPM
10. Cake by the Ocean by DNCE – Jonas Brothers are still killing it since their breakup years and years ago. Leader of this pop band, Joe Jonas, leads this breakout group.
9. Into You by Ariana Grande – one of my favorite songs from her, the 3LAU remix adds a sexier beat behind it
8. Work (feat. Rihanna) by Drake – reptitive but great, definitely a song to twerk to.
7. Work From Home (feat. Ty Dolla $ign) by Fifth Harmony – Fifth harmony has gotten bigger and bigger each year, I hope one day they end up a household name like The Spice Girls. Camilla Cabello just left the band to go solo though so consider a name change maybe Fourth harmony?
6. Side to Side (feat. Nicki Minaj) by Ariana Grande – Recently got huge and without a doubt, the best song off of Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman, love that reggae sounding beat
5. Cheap Thrills by Sia and Sean Paul – the year of low BPM continues with one of the biggest stars, Sia.
4. Can’t Stop the Feeling by Justin Timberlake – This was probably the song of the summer. The lyrics say it all and has been a regular at all my events.
3. This is What You Came For by Calvin Harris and Rihanna – I agree with my colleague Kris A. It is not as big as We Found Love but the duo do know how to make great dance music, Rihanna’s 28th top ten hit. s
2. Closer (feat. Halsey) by the Chainsmokers – Arguably the Chainsmokers biggest song, you either love or hate. When it came out, I couldn’t stop belting it. But now if you get a few drinks in me, i’d still probably belt it. 11 weeks number 1 on Hot 100. By spending an 11th week atop the chart, it became the longest number one single of 2016 surpassing Drake‘s “One Dance” which spent 10 non-consecutive weeks at number one.
1. One Dance (feat. Wizkid & Kyla) by Drake – In my opinion, Drake’s best song this year, infectious with a great low tempo beat. Probably used it at every single dance I DJ-ed at this year.
Have a great year! Looking forward to what music 2017 has in-store for everyone
